CPTV - 72 NHRA SPRINGNATS TF CHAMPION GETS A CACKLE OUT OF DRAG RACING

Chip Woodall, the 1972 NHRA Springnationals Top Fuel champion, had waited a long time to sit behind the wheel of a nitro-burning dragster. Saturday he got his chance to feel a cackle in the seat of his pants.

"I think this is the greatest deal, getting to do this after forty years," admitted Woodall.

Woodall piloted Beaver and Pat Wasson's re-creation of the Peebles & Williams "Gold Car" during the California Hot Rod Reunion in Bakersfield, Ca.

Woodall only starts the engine and whacks the throttle a few times while in neutral, but given the opportunity he'd jump right back into the big show.

"I'd do it again in a heartbeat," Woodall admitted. "I'd like to go 300 miles per hour, something I never got the chance to do."
