GRAY TO REWORK CAR'S CHASSIS IN ATTEMPT TO CURE TEAM'S ILLS

fc grayJohnny Gray and crew chief Rob Wendland revealed back in May they were experiencing the kind of frustration many teams would love to have. They simple had too much horsepower. Once they found the delicate balance of horsepower and combination, the Pitch Energy Dodge Charger responded with back-to-back victories in May.

Following an early loss at the recently completed NHRA Route 66 Nationals, as well as a string of other questionable losses, Gray said there seems to be other gremlins at play. As a result, the car was sent to the Don Schumacher Racing chassis shop from a thorough inspection as well as a front-half chassis replacement.

In May, Gray and Wendland knew where the issue which plagued the car. This time they hope closer inspection can reveal what has gone awry.

"Well, we don't know," Gray said on Sunday. "The car has really been throwing some curveballs at us for about three races now. We don't really understand what's happening, but we know it has several runs on the chassis, and one of the benefits of being hooked up with such a great organization as DSR means that we've already made a call and asked the chassis shop to help us out. My guys are going back to the shop [in Brownsburg, Ind.] tonight and at 7am they're going to strip the car down. By 8:30 tomorrow morning, it will be in the chassis shop, and they're going to front-half it and put it back together right quick, then take it to Norwalk next week and see if we can find the gremlin that's in there somewhere.

"We're really struggling with the car. Something is amiss. We are a better team than this, and we have a better car than that. Something is amiss and it's time to make a drastic change and see what's going on."
