TJ KASPAR DOUBLES UP AT ATCO EVENT
TJ Kasper won two Outlaw 10.5 races and a total of $15,500 at the final Super Saturday of the year at Atco Raceway. The first race featured one of the biggest payouts in the country for Outlaw 10.5 cars with the winner taking home $10,500. Kasper pocketed that money then piloted his 2004 twin turbo Mustang to the winners circle in the monthly $5,000 race.
Kasper qualified #1 with a 4.211 pass and in Round 1 of the $10,500 race he got around the nitrous fed machine of Brian Penna. In Round 2 he eliminated his father, Tom Kasper, who broke loose and miraculously kept the car off the wall. Round 3 featured one of the best races of the day with Kasper going 4.214 187.26 to Bill Mitchell’s 4.248 192.82. In the finals Kasper mustered a 4.173 182.77 pass to take out runner up Steve Gorman who went 4.856 114.39.
While he managed to only qualify 11th for the $5,000 race he made up for it in eliminations by going through a who’s who list of Outlaw 10.5 drivers. In Round 1 he defeated Bill Mitchell for the second time by going 4.210 to Mitchell’s 4.259. Mo Hall had engine problems in Round 2 and Kapser went 4.184 on the bye run. Up next it was Kasper’s engine builder Anthony Disomma who had previously set the track record with a 4.151 pass. Kasper barreled down the strip to go 4.150 and set a new track record while DiSomma slowed up to a 4.300. In the finals it was Kasper vs Steve Gorman again for 10.5 supremacy but it played out like a movie everyone had seen before. Gorman went for it but could only dial up a 4.358 and Kasper turned on the win light by going 4.182.
In the end it was the most money won by an Outlaw 10.5 racer in the history of Atco Raceway. To add icing to the cake TJ Kasper also won the 2012 Outlaw 10.5 track championship.
