ALL FIELDS SET FOR SHAKEDOWN NATIONALS ELIMINATIONS
Maybe all he had to do was sleep on it.
With a carryover chance Sunday for the X275 class, hot-streaking Rich Bruder and his '88 Mustang team found the right combination and jumped to the No. 1 qualifying position for the day's eliminations of the Shakedown Nationals at Englishtown, N.J.
Bruder recorded a 4.669-second elapsed time at 158.89 mph on the Old Bridge Township Raceway Park eighth-mile course to ace out Sean Ashe, who had the fastest qualifying speed at 160.50 mph. Bruder had started out 12th Friday and improved to fourth Saturday.
Chuck Mohn (Top Sportsman), Frank Soldridge (Limited Street), Thomas Haase (8.50 Index), Joey Gladstone (Pro Street Bike), and Jorge Juarbe (Pro Import) held onto their No. 1 spots as their classes also got another qualifying run.
Six classes received a Sunday-morning session because they lost valuable time with Saturday's massive computer surge that knocked out the electrical timing system.
Jose Gonzalez (Pro Mod), Tim Lynch (Outlaw 10.5), and Roger Sterling (Heavy Street) locked down No. 1 starting spots Saturday.
Final eliminations got under way just after noon.
