PATTERSON, RAFTERY LEAD NHRA DALLAS SPORTSMAN QUALIFYING
Sportsman icon Todd Patterson drove his SS/AM Chevrolet Cobalt to the top of Super Stock qualifying at the AAA Texas NHRA Nationals outside of Dallas. Joining Patterson atop his class was Top Sportsman racer was Keith Raftery. Sportsman qualifying was completed in those divisions Thursday at the Texas Motorplex.
Patterson recorded a best 8.049 against his 9.00 to set the pace for the Super Stockers at -.951. Tony Crowell (GT/JA, -.937) and Gary Emmons (SS/JA, -.906) rounded out the top three spots.
Raftery ran a 6.446, 216.79 to finish well ahead of his Top Sportsman brethren. Nearly .16 behind him in second was Jeff Brooks, whose 1951 Henry J stopped the clocks with a 6.603. Texan Greg Lair was third with a 6.642.
Comp eliminator put one session in the books and it was Bruno Massel leading the charge with a -.682 (6.588) effort against the I/Dragster index. Pat Nahan continued the dragster domination by running -.626 under the E/Dragster standard for second while Joey Tanksley was third with a -.579 under the C/Dragster index.
Sportsman qualifying resumes at 8 AM, CST on Friday.
