As we prepare for the 2012 NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship, take a trip down memory lane to the 1979 season.

The 1979 NHRA Gatornationals was heralded as one of the "majors" and like every other running of the event was affected by weather.

Unpredictable weather couldn't diminish the value of this event. You'll see the legends of drag racing making their mark on the quarter-mile of Gainesville Raceway. You'll see an epic battle of Pro Stock icons Bob Glidden and Ronnie Sox as well as an up and coming Pro Comp racer named Joe Amato.

And, of course, there are dry hops for the nitro cars.
