JOHN FORCE ROAD SHOW AT CHARLOTTE-AREA WAL-MART STORES
Select Charlotte-area Wal-mart stores will be transformed this week into pit stops for some of the world’s most powerful races cars including the 8,000 horsepower Castrol GTX “25th Anniversary” Ford Mustang John Force drove to victory in the inaugural 4Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway and later to the 2010 NHRA Funny Car Championship.
At each of five designated Wal-mart stores, from Thursday through Sunday, race fans will have access to a kiosk through which they can acquire information on the John Force Traveling Road Show, enter the Castrol sweepstakes and watch a looped DVD that includes Team Castrol racing highlights.
In addition, consumers can save $7 on the purchase of a minimum of five quarts of Castrol motor oil or save the same amount on a Castrol oil change and, in the process, enter to win special prizes including a 2012 Ford Fiesta.
Other prizes include a Fantasy Race Weekend to the NHRA Auto Club Finals in Pomona, Calif., in November, a Hawaiian vacation and racing apparel and memorabilia.
Cars from the John Force Traveling Road Show will be on display at Wal-mart stores at 150 Concord Commons and 5825 Thunder Road in Concord, 169 Norman Station Boulevard in Mooresville, 323 S. Arlington Street in Salisbury and at 7735 N. Tryon in Charlotte in advance of next week's fifth annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Nationals at zMax.
The featured cars are Robert Hight’s Auto Club Ford Mustang and four of John Force’s Castrol-backed Fords: the 25th Anniversary Castrol GTX Ford Mustang that won the 2010 NHRA championship, the Castrol GTX “Warbird” Ford Mustang, Castrol GTX “Superman” Ford Mustang and the Castrol GTX HIGH MILEAGE Ford Mustang.

2010 Castrol GTX HIGH MILEAGE “American Warbird” Ford Mustang
Driver: John Force
Crew Chiefs: Mike Neff and Austin Coil
History: The “American Warbird” commemorative Mustang ran at Norwalk, Ohio, in 2010. It celebrated the 70th anniversary of the P-51 Mustang fighter plane from World War II. The paint scheme includes a riveted aircraft look. Force won the race.
Performance: 4.163 seconds at 275.84 mph @ 1,000 feet.
2010 Castrol GTX “25th Anniversary” Ford Mustang
Driver: John Force
Crew Chiefs: Mike Neff and Austin Coil
History: The “25th Anniversary” car celebrated John Force’s 25 years with Castrol GTX sponsorship. It won six times in 2010 to give Force his 15th NHRA championship. The car won the 50th annual O’Reilly Winternationals and the inaugural 4Wide Nationals.
Performance: 4.021 seconds at 316.22 mph @ 1,000 feet.
2011 Team Castrol/Auto Club Ford Mustang
Driver: Robert Hight
Crew Chief: Jimmy Prock
History: The 2011 Auto Club Ford won four of the season’s first nine races and shared with Mike Neff’s Castrol GTX Ford the distinction of winning more 2011 races than any other Funny Car – five – and set the national speed record of 316.45 mph.
Performance: 4.031 seconds at 318.92 mph @ 1,000 feet.
1999 Castrol GTX “Superman” Ford Mustang
Driver: John Force
Crew Chiefs: Austin Coil and Bernie Fedderly
History: “Superman” entry won the inaugural 1999 Winston Showdown at Bristol, Tennessee in which Funny Cars raced against Top Fuel dragsters. Force beat five Top Fuel dragsters to secure a $210,000 payday, the largest in history of the sport.
Performance: 4.879 seconds at 306.88 mph @ 1/4 mile
2011 Castrol GTX HIGH MILEAGE Ford Mustang
Driver: John Force
Crew Chiefs: Dean Antonelli and Ron Douglas
History: John Force won his 133rd NHRA tour event in this car, giving him at least one victory in 24 different seasons, breaking a record he shared with “King Richard” Petty. The car qualified No. 1 five times to make Force the career leader in that category as well with 139.
Performance: 4.011 seconds at 319.22 mph @ 1,000 feet
