NEW GIG FOR BOB HARRIS
K1Racegear in Carlsbad, California has added Bob Harris as their new General Manager. Harris made the move to the expanding motorsports safety company, in May of this year, after his longtime tenure with K&N Engineering that included work in several capacities from the Sports Marketing department to being the Corporate Race Accounts Manager.
“After eleven years at K&N, I had an opportunity to come here and take a management position to run the operation,” Harris said of his reason for the change. “With that also came the opportunity to grow as a person and as a businessman.”
Not being a stranger to either side of a race track, Harris understands the need for quality safety equipment for all forms of motorsports and points out why the K1Racegear brand stood out for him. “Driving suits and Karting suits, I mean everything that is involved as far as safety from shoes to gloves and everything in-between, the product and the quality that we have available here is second to none,” he pointed out. “With my passion for racing and motorsports, I wanted to come down here and make a difference and be a big part of this company, its products
While Harris has eagerly jumped in with both feet to his new position with K1Racegear, he is quick to point out what his time with K&N meant to him. “Right off the bat, it was the greatest employment experience to date. I have to say that I gained tons of experience in marketing, sales and customer service. The bottom line is that I want to say a huge personal thanks to Steve Williams for that opportunity and of course everything he taught me.”
K1Racegear was founded in 2005 and started in the Karting world. Today the company continues to have a strong presence in the Karting scene including sponsoring Team USA with custom driving suits and apparel.
“We haven’t even touched on the automotive race world,” he noted. “With what I learned maintaining the sponsorship and other marketing programs at K&N, I am beginning to build the plan going forward to get this line of products out into the entire motorsports community.”
And with Harris at the reigns, he has wasted no time making big plans for the future and new product offerings. “I only hope to make K1Racegear bigger and better. Time will tell. We are working on product development, some new manufacturing situations and constantly trying to change, upgrade and bring new lines to the market daily.”
In addition to his new career path, Harris will continue with his passion for drag racing on track with several events planned yet this season, where he will be styling in his own new K1Racegear custom fire suit. “The plan is to make the NHRA National and the NHRA Div. 7 events yet this year in Las Vegas,” he explained. “If I miss someone, I will for sure be available for the NHRA World Finals in Pomona for the entire event.”
Harris points out that K1Racegear will also be on hand with display booths at both the PRI Show at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida [Nov. 29 – Dec. 1] as well as the IMIS trade show that will be held at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indy [Dec. 6-8].
“I sincerely thank the owner of K1Racegear, David Danglard for this fantastic opportunity,” he added. “Dustin Maddison, who is our Sales Manager and Richard Zimmerman who handles Sales and Consulting are both super to work with and I am very excited about our team, our products and our future in motorsports safety products.”
