422 ALL-STARS COMING TO MAPLE GROVE
For those wanting to see first-hand what the glory days of drag racing looked like, a visit by the 422 All-Stars will bring plenty of thrills.
The Oaks, Pa.-based race team features dozens of nostalgic Super Stock cars of the mid-1960s that were an integral part of the East Coast drag racing culture.
There are 427 Fords as well as a bunch of Chevrolets and a HEMI-powered Chrysler. These cars can run down the track at 8 or 9 seconds with speeds up to 160 mph.
The 422 All-Stars will be making two appearances at Maple Grove Raceway in August.
On Saturday, Aug. 4, the All-Stars will be part of the Glory Daze Nostalgia Race. This race, which has the same bracket-race features as the former Geezers Reunion, will feature the 422 All-Stars along with Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Drag Racing Association.
There will be two classes of bracket racing for 1984-and-older cars and another for drivers who are 55 and older.
Also on Saturday is the Summer Flea Market. Vendors can secure a 15- by 20-foot spot for $35 while buyers can enter for $5 and stay for the racing. Gates for the flea market at 8 a.m. while racers can start entering at 9 and begin racing at 10.
Later in August, the 422 All-Stars will be returning for Fun Ford Weekend on the 18th and 19th.
All the All-Stars will be on hand as the Fords take on all-comers in a “Nostalgia Ford SS vs. The World” format.
