ADRL CHAMPIONSHIP CAR SUCCESSFUL ON OUTLAW TOUR
The tracks are different and so is the driver, but Andy McCoy’s ADRL series-winning Duster is again turning heads and turning on win lights. This time with Terry Coyle in the Outlaw Pro Mod ranks.
Coyle, from Stamping Ground, Ky., hit the strip running with a 3.86-second pass the first time in the car and has not looked back since. He is coming off wins at events in Huntsville, Ala. and London, Ky.
After deciding earlier this year not to defend the Pro Extreme title he won with Jason Hamstra at the wheel in 2011, McCoy put his 1970 Plymouth-bodied car on the market. The renowned car builder and chassis tuner then turned his efforts to filling the growing demand for cars and parts at Andy McCoy Race Cars.
But a suitable buyer never materialized. And not content to see his car gather dust, McCoy made a deal to allow Coyle drive the car in the meantime. Ever since, the car has been doing what it does best – go fast.
Coyle has been the top qualifier at each of the four events he has run and has set track records along the way. With one test pass on the car he went to a $30,000 race in South Carolina and fell victim to a broken blower belt in the semifinals.
“AMRC builds a high-quality, safe race car that has been a pleasure to tune and drive,” Coyle said. “It’s a team effort for us with help from Kim, Jon Garrett and the Garrett Trucking crew.”
Coyle and Garrett installed their engine and transmission combo - a hemi with a roots style supercharger. Coyle does the tuning at the track. McCoy set the car up initially and consults on the phone when needed.
“I am a little surprised we haven’t found a buyer for the car based on the success we had last year, but I’m glad to see it’s being put to good use in the interim,” said McCoy. “Terry is a great driver and great tuner so the success he has had thus far is well deserved.
“I know we will eventually find a buyer for the car,” McCoy added. “But until we do, I’m sure Terry is going to keep it in the fast lane. And I’ll just keep building cars with the help of Hedman Headers, Billet Specialties, 1320 Media and STT Safety.”
