TEASLEY BATTLES BACK AT THE ROCK; WILLIFORD, HUNNICUTT ALSO WIN
The sizzle came from more than just heat and humidity Sunday at Steve Earwood’s Rockingham Dragway where reigning MiRock Superbike Series Champion Jeremy Teasley returned to form in winning the DME Real Street title at the 16th annual Schnitz Summer Sizzler.
Teasley, who has not been his usual dominant self this year, got a final round gift when points leader Johnny Dobrin of Sarasota, Fla., was guilty of a rare foul start that put the first blemish on his MiRock record after three straight 2012 victories.
Racing on a 164-degree racetrack, Teasley won the Real Street title for the ninth time in the last 10 MiRock races contested at Rockingham.
He was joined in the winners’ circle by Rob Hunnicutt of Hughesville, Md., who beat current series champion Ronnie Procopio Jr. of Wake Forest in the Mickey Thompson Tires Pro Mod final, and by Rodney Williford of Rougemont, who won his 11 MiRock race, but his first this season in the Orient Express Pro Street class.
The most frustrated rider on the grounds might have been veteran Boo Brown of Potomac Falls, Va. Brown was runner-up in both the Nitrous Express Pro ET and Brocks Performance Street ET classes on Saturday and finished in the same position Sunday in the Trac King Top Sportsman event.
Michael Rankin of Staunton, Va., was the Top Sportsman winner while Ron Arnold of Bowling Green, Ky., won the House of Speed Crazy 8s title and Durham’s Jack Durant the FBR Shop 5.60 Pro Comp championship.
Pro ET winners were Barry Pryer Sr. of Chesapeake, Va., and Wardell Pinkney of Hyattsville, Md., who used a perfect .000 reaction time to force Stanley Russell into a final round breakout foul on Sunday. Street ET winners were Shayne Proctor of Indian Head, Md., and Barry Purnell of Henderson, NC
