JET CARS TO HIGHLIGHT MAPLE GROVE 50TH SPECTACULAR
Over the years one of the more popular attractions at Maple Grove Raceway has been jet cars.
It doesn’t matter if they’re dragsters or Funny Cars; the ground shaking and heat from the jets have been keeping people in the stands for decades. With that in mind, a jet exhibition is more than appropriate for Maple Grove Raceway’s 50th Anniversary Spectacular on Saturday, June 23.
While most events might have one, or two, jets, this one will have five.
Scheduled to appear are:
* Hanna Motorsports’ Top Secret and Gojo Firebird Funny Cars, driven by Ken Hall and Rich Hanna, respectively. Team owner Al Hanna has been racing at Maple Grove for decades.
* K.C. Jones’ Team Steam that features the Chattanooga Choo-Choo and Cannonball Express dragsters.
* Bob Motz’s Jet Truck is a sight to behold. Known as the “King of Quake” this semi will exceed 230 mph and provide 17,500 pounds of thrust.
Spectator gates open at noon with prerace ceremonies at 6 p.m. and the main event at 7.
Besides the jets, the show will feature the Auto-Plus Cavalcade of Funny Cars, the Winged Express fuel altered and Danny O’Day’s Wheelstander.
Tickets are $30 for adults, $10 for teens ages 13-15 and free for children 12-and-under with a paid adult.
