TWO WEEKS LEFT IN TASCA'S 'OUR EVERYDAY HEROES' CONTEST

Time is running out to vote in the “Our Everyday Heroes” Race Car Design Contest. Just two weeks remain before the Top 10 advance to the “finals,” where driver Bob Tasca III and a panel of judges will choose which child of the many with type 1 diabetes (T1D) around the country will see his or her design on the 8,000-horsepower Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Series race in Norwalk, Ohio July 6-8, 2012.

For the fifth consecutive year, Ford Customer Service Division (FCSD) has partnered with JDRF to host a race car design contest. This year’s theme is a patriotic one that honors Everyday Heroes—from those who serve the United States in the military, fire, or police forces to children who soldier on every day with a disease that has no known cause or cure.

Vote now on the JDRF website at http://www.jdrf.org/ford. Voting ends at 12 a.m. ET on Memorial Day (Monday, May 28)—fitting, given the contest’s patriotic theme.

“It’s amazing how creative these kids are,” Tasca said. “Every entry is fantastic. I look forward to hearing their stories and showing the winner and his or her family what this 8,000-horsepower Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car can do in Norwalk!”

The winning child will participate in a special unveiling before the race and watch up close as Tasca competes in the NHRA Nationals that weekend.

The contest has raised more than $250,000 for diabetes research since 2008 with help from Tasca Racing and Wood Brothers Racing, and from drivers like Tasca, Trevor Bayne, and Bill Elliott.

Our drivers are terrific ambassadors for Motorcraft and Quick Lane Racing and they will take our special JDRF winner under the ropes and treat them to a unique racing experience.

In T1D, the body’s pancreas stops producing enough insulin, a hormone that is needed to turn food into energy. People with T1D must currently monitor their blood sugar levels and administer insulin via shots or an insulin pump, multiple times every day. Even vigilant management does not ward against T1D complications such as heart attack, stroke, blindness, and amputation. JDRF is the largest charitable funder of research toward preventing, better treating, and curing T1D and its complications.
