TODD TO RUN DOLLAR GENERAL DRAGSTER IN TOPEKA

In conjunction with 24th annual Dollar General NHRA Summernationals at Heartland Park Topeka

Top Fuel competitor J.R. Todd is coming up on his third race of the 2012 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing season and in turn is bringing additional exposure to the event sponsor for the eighth race on tour, the 24th annual Dollar General NHRA Summernationals at Heartland Park Topeka, May 18-20.

“Going into Topeka I am definitely more comfortable in the car than I was going into our first race in Houston. Kurt Elliott (crew chief) and the guys are doing a good job getting the car down the track every run which builds my confidence and Kurt's as well,” said the accomplished driver, having six career wins and eight final round appearances under his belt. “This race is extra special for us as it's the Dollar General event and we'll be running the Dollar General car.  Since this is their first time being involved with NHRA, we want to go out there and represent them the best that we can and put on a good show,” he added.

To kick-off the weekend, Todd will join Bob Vandergriff Jr. at a local Dollar General location for an autograph signing on Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Both drivers will be available for interviews to preview the race weekend. Dollar General edition hero cards will be available to fans and Country station 102.9 KTOP will be on location and broadcasting live from the event.

“It's always great to interact with the fans at these events and hopefully we can attract some new fans at the Dollar General display and help grow our fan base within the NHRA,” Todd said.

Todd’s team is operated by Bob Vandergriff Racing and both cars are housed in their new race shop in Brownsburg, Ind.

“I am very thankful for Bob Vandergriff giving me this opportunity to drive his second team car.  Bob is one of, if not the best at putting deals together and I'm hoping we can turn this into a long-term partnership.  Giving the way this team has performed in the past, I know that we are plenty capable of qualifying well and going rounds on race day,” Todd said.
