COLBERT GAMBLE PAYS OFF HUGE

It was no easy decision for driver Wyatt Colbert to join in the festivities of the 2nd Annual K&N Spring Fling 20’s at Bristol Dragway.  Wyatt, who contemplated SF_Wyatt_Colbertnot making the drive, felt the gradual slowing of his work had caused a lack in “play money” for him to use to support his racing hobby.

“It was actually the pressure from my buddies that were coming down to race that made me decide to come,” Colbert explained.

Collecting the last of his “play money” Colbert made the decision to make the trip. “It was definitely a gamble,” he stated.

Colbert entered the race, paying $12,500 to win, on Thursday but was quickly forced to take a step back and think about his decision. He had gone red to his  first round competition, landing himself as a first round runner up.

“I called my wife,” Colbert explained, “I asked her if I should save the money to enter the twenties or re-enter.  She told me I came down here to race and that I should use the money to take another shot at it. So, I re-entered.”

And who may you ask did Colbert face in re-entry?

“I lined up next to Anthony Bertozzi,” laughed Colbert, “And I got by him.”

However, Bertozzi would not be Colbert’s toughest race.

“My toughest round was third round against Jason Lynch. I went way red but luckily he (Lynch) had gone red before me,” Colbert stated.

Colbert raced himself from the re-entry line to the final round where he met up with the dragster defeating machine of Roy St. Denis.

“If I could have chosen, I would have wanted to race another dragster,” Colbert explained. “It’s easier to judge when you’re coming up on a dragster. There is less distance in between,” he explained. “I like racing 1000’, I’m used to driving eighth-mile but the extra distance gives me more time to make a decision,” Colbert exclaimed.

Colbert made the correct decisions at the finish line after being nearly perfect on the tree in the final round, landing him in the winners circle with an oversized check written out in his name for $12,500.

The winnings not only paid for his trip but will also give him some extra money to take his son to Farmington next week, where he will compete in a Junior Dragster event.

“It may have been a gamble, but the gamble sure paid off,” smiled Colbert.
