PERKINSON LICENSED, GLIDDEN REJOINS TEAM

Testing for Buddy Perkinson, the 19-year-old from Prince George, VA., and Cunningham Motorsports began on Monday with a focus on uncovering the Perkinson_Testing_smhorsepower needed to qualify at the top of the field throughout the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Season.

With GCPay.com, a leading online service provider in the construction industry, now on board as a new sponsor, the next order of business for Cunningham Motorsports was to run quick enough that Perkinson would obtain his NHRA Pro Stock license. Thus far, Perkinson has unleashed a 6.63 elapsed time at 209 miles per hour and a 6.581 with a top speed of 210 miles per hour, finalizing his licensing and becoming the career best ET (elapsed time) pass for Cunningham Motorsports.

In addition to several quick passes out of the Cunningham Motorsports team, Perkinson performed very well on the starting line Christmas tree, cutting .019, .017, .012, .007, .003 and .000 [reaction time] lights.

Among the team this week, Bob Glidden is crew chiefing the Cunningham Motorsports Ford Mustang driven by Perkinson. Glidden and Perkinson work well together and all clearly benefit from the experience Glidden brings to the table.

A very pumped up Perkinson says, “I just want to thank everybody that came and helped, especially Bob (Glidden) himself for coming down here last minute. When we started testing on Monday, Glidden wanted to kind of let me get a feel for the car and get used to working with me.  He wanted to see how I drive, and at the same time, put some confidence in me. As far as everything inside the car, Glidden really took his time and was really patient with me. I can’t thank him enough for having the patience he did. He was constantly tinkering with everything and getting things to the point where I felt comfortable. So, when we ran that 6.58 at the end of the day today (Tuesday), it was just amazing for the team.”

“These last couple of days, I couldn’t have dreamed of it going as good and as smooth as it did. Just trying to make me comfortable in the car, these guys helped tremendously. When I got in the car, there was always a guy on the driver’s side door and the passenger side door. There was never a time when I didn’t have a question answered immediately, so I really can’t thank the track guys or my team enough,” added Perkinson.

The team will continue testing in Bradenton, Fla. the remainder of the week.
