FRESH WHEELS, FRESH OUTLOOK: GAYDOSH TRADES UP

humphreysPart-time Pro Stock campaigner John Gaydosh is looking to enhance his program in 2011 and will do so behind the wheel of a Pontiac GXP that looks mighty familiar.

When Gaydosh learned that fellow Maryland-based Pro Stock driver Justin Humphreys was planning to make the move to Ford, he began to inquire about the future of Humphreys' fine-looking GXP. The orange and red flamed paint scheme was similar to what Gaydosh had in mind for his own car, a GTO, in the last year that NHRA would allow it to be run, but switching to the GXP now seemed a reasonable choice.

"Justin and I have been talking for about a year, and it worked out," said Gaydosh. "He [was ready to sell] his car, and I had somebody interested in mine. Last Tuesday, I met the guy in South Carolina and he bought my car to run in NHRA's Top Sportsman in Division 2 with it, and on my way back I stopped by Justin's and gave him a check for his car."

Gaydosh, a former Top Sportsman racer who made the jump to Pro Stock in 2008 behind the wheel of the GTO formerly owned by two-time Pro Stock world champion Jim Yates, anticipates a bit of intensity in the transition, but he is optimistic.

"We're going from a Jerry Haas car to an RJ Racecars car, so there will be a slight learning curve to figure out what this one will like with our motor combination compared to what the other one would like," said Gaydosh. "Speaking of motors, our good motor is finally ready and made a bunch more horsepower than we had last year on the dyno, so that's also better. Gary Stropko and Dale Eicke fixed it up for us, and we're real excited about the new car and new motor."

The plan for the quickly approaching 2011 season of Full Throttle Series drag racing includes a quick stop in Bradenton for testing the weekend before the Gatornationals, where Gaydosh will make his season debut. From there, he plans to attend a total for 10-12 races with wife Tina cheering him from the sidelines and the continued financial assistance from Pypes Performance and Competition Products, though primary backing is still being sought.

"If we can pick up more sponsorship, we will run more races," he said. "We appreciate what we get from Pypes Performance and Competition Products, and every little bit helps. We want to be out there as much as we can, and we're really looking forward to running this new car."
