Funeral services will be held on today, December 22, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Mr. Ronnie West, 66, who passed away Saturday, December 18, 2010, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Entombment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.

Father Mike Champagne will officiate.

West was born Wednesday, January 26, 1944 in El Campo, Texas. He was raised in Abbeville and was a long-time resident of Lafayette. Ronnie served in the U. S. Navy and was a retired Louisiana State Trooper. He was the owner of West Truck Sales in Broussard since 1981 and was a former owner of State Capitol Dragway in Baton Rouge.

Ronnie was a competitive, passionate drag car racer in the NHRA. He had a passion for racing and an even bigger passion for helping those in need. He will be deeply missed by his family, employees, racing associates and friends. He owned State Capitol Dragway 2000- 2004 and was Stock Eliminator winner at Texas Motorplex.

Mr. West is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Sarah Webb West of Lafayette; two sons, Richard West and his wife, Courtney of CT and Danny West, of Lafayette; one daughter, Mandy West of Denver, CO; four grandchildren; and three sisters, Waynoka Lawrence, Thetis Mead and Telete West.

The family requests that visiting hours at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette be observed on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.

Pallbearers will be Jason Line, Lawrence Line, Jerry Emmons, Terry Emmons, Gary Emmons, Mike Cotton, Glenn Rester and Tracy Broussard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ronnie's name to the Miles Perret Center Cancer Services, 2130 Kaliste Saloom Rd., #200, Lafayette, LA, 70508, (337) 984-1920, www.milesperretcenter.org.
