Somebody got it wrong.
Four Wide Top Fuel
ESPN.com reporter Terry Blount, covering the NHRA announcement concerning four wide racing coming to Zmax Dragway in Concord, NC noted in his article posted Thursday morning, and we quote, “The decision to use all four lanes came within the last week after NHRA officials discussed the plan with the Professional Racers Owners Organization (PRO), the NHRA's drivers and team owners group.”

Those words came as a complete surprise to several of the PRO board members, including Bill Miller and Ron Capps.

“They did not talk to PRO,” said Capps, after doing his own research.

When asked what he thought of the statement in Blount's article, Bill Miller said, “Absolutely false.”

Miller stated that no one from the NHRA talked to him and that he had conversations with several other board members who also had not been contacted by the NHRA. Miller made it clear he was not speaking for the entire board, however, he added, “If I am going to be on the board, I would feel that I should be afforded the same courtesy afforded to member more famous than me. Otherwise, why should I be on the board?”

At least one member of the PRO board was contacted by the NHRA. However, that contact was not made a week prior to the announcement, or even three days before the announcement.

Both Miller and Capps were of the opinion that had the NHRA broached the subject with the PRO board, it would have met with stiff resistance. Capps, Miller and several of the professional drivers contact by Attitude's CompetitionPlus.com expressed serious concern about the safety of running four wide.

The 2010 season is less than a month away and already there are those looking at the offices in Glendora, Calif and shaking their heads.
