Veteran Funny Car pilot Tommy Johnson Jr. and Don “the Snake” Prudhomme’s Skoal Racing Funny Car team will be featured on the popular History Channel series Modern Marvels during a 60-minute episode dedicated to horsepower. Modern Marvels is for an audience eager to dig a little deeper, explore a little further, and get a little closer to the knowledge that shapes our everyday lives.

Johnson, a seven-time NHRA winner, will be prominently featured in the first segment of the hour-long program that will air on Wednesday, June 21 at 10 p.m. (ET). The Modern Marvels production team attended the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event at Houston Raceway Park in late March to gather b-roll footage and interviews for the Modern Marvels: Horsepower piece. Johnson’s wife and Top Fuel driver Melanie Troxel also will be featured during the segment.

“Being a big fan of the show, it’s very cool to be featured on Modern Marvels” Johnson said. “The show will provide some prime television exposure for our sport and the awesome horsepower that these race cars produce. I hope that some of the novice fans get a look at what real horsepower is all about and what NHRA drag racing has to offer. I’m proud that our team was chosen to be a part of such a popular program.”

In addition to the world’s fastest motor sport, the Horsepower episode will define what horsepower is and how it is calculated. Then, it will show an engine on a dynamometer at General Motors, hydroplane boats, a diesel engine on a large container ship, a Waukesha generator engine that produces electricity, the turbines at Hoover Dam, a water-pumping plant in California, and a Lexus hybrid motor.
