The Board of Directors of
the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame in Ocala, FL have announced that Bill
Bader, Sr. former IHRA owner/president and the major force behind the phenomenal
growth of Norwalk Raceway Park in Ohio, will be the recipient of the Founders
Award during the induction ceremony in March. Bader helped grow NRP from a classic “mom ‘n
pop” drag strip into one of the nation’s most prominent
facilities, one that features superior spectator amenities, an excellent racing
surface and almost unmatched rapport with its neighbors. NRP’s highly regarded Halloween Classic features
almost 1,500 bracket racers, and is among the largest such events of its type
nationally. In addition to that grass roots event NRP’s infamous
Night Under Fire spectacular is Northern Ohio’s largest single day motorsports
event, while the IHRA World Nationals has been that sanctioning organization’s
largest and most financially successful national event. Although day-to-day operations of the track have been
turned over to Bill Bader, Jr., it was under his father’s leadership that the
track – and IHRA – showed significant growth. In fact, it was the senior Bader’s leadership that
ultimately resulted in the facility switching sanctions to NHRA, with the track
set to host its first POWERade Series race in July of next year. Bader will receive his honor during the 16th Annual Induction Banquet at the
Paramount Plaza Hotel in Gainesville, FL on March 15, 2007.
