FEEDBACK FRIDAY – LIFE SIMPLY HAS CHANGED FOR SKUZA, FORMER FUNNY CAR FAVORITE

12_21_09_dean_skuzaFEEDBACK ARTICLE: LIFE SIMPLY HAS CHANGED FOR SKUZA, FORMER FUNNY CAR FAVORITE

Real good reading about Dean, We all miss him and what he brought to NHRA racing. Dean really connected with a lot of fans. - Ralph Romeo

He is one of the best. Always loved the way he talk and supported the sport. He is the type of person that you would want allways look on the bright side. Sorry to see him gone. But money makes our sport go round and the lack of it causes the outcome. No money no racing. - Dave G

FEEDBACK FRIDAY: TIME TO TINKER WITH THE NHRA'S COUNTDOWN?

12_15_09_stan_creekmoreFEEDBACK ARTICLE:   TIME TO TINKER WITH THE NHRA'S COUNTDOWN?

Why do we emulate what Nascar does. The only things we share are 4 tires and we both fall under the Motorsports category. If the countdown has to continue, why not make the series 2 part.Crown a champion at Indy, small trophy, small check. Then include everybody who has competed at all events in the countdown, So everybody get equal TV and Media coverage at the beginning. Its hard to justify to your sponsor why you can not finish any better than eleventh if you finish the season strong. In today's economy corporate funding is hard to come by, and when you are completely excluded from coverage, it only adds to the problem. - Doug Kuch

FEEDBACK FRIDAY – BOBBY BENNETT: IT USED TO BE MY PLAYGROUND

FEEDBACK ARTICLE:  – IT USED TO BE MY PLAYGROUND

12_02_09_playgroundYour reflections on Spartanburg Dragway brought back a lot of memories of that era and the tracks that built the sport that we all love.  Fortunately the tracks that influenced my teen years - Cordova Dragway Park and Union Grove (WI) - are still in operation but I have also revisited U.S. 30 (Gary, IN) and Meadowdale (IL) Raceway and viwed tree trunks of 4 inches plus springing from cracks in the racing surface.  The sight is painful, but the memories are great. - Ron Colson

FEEDBACK FRIDAY – PRO MODIFIED: TWO DECADES OF THRILLS

FEEDBACK ARTICLE: PRO MODIFIED: TWO DECADES OF THRILLS

11_24_09_pro_modAt the beginning of Pro Mod Walter Henry was ahead of the crowd. His blown car with a 2 stage clutch and Lenco was a superior combination.

He was a very smart racer and would have remained a champion in Pro Mod. - Norman Hechtkoff

FEEDBACK FRIDAY – THE IHRA COMMUNITY WEIGHS IN ON THE 2010 RACE FORMAT

FEEDBACK ARTICLE: THE IHRA COMMUNITY WEIGHS IN ON THE 2010 RACE FORMAT

10-20-09ihra2010Quote from article:

“I think it will be a great show for the novice spectator. The purist race spectators will have to take some time to warm up to it. From a novice fan that hears it advertised on the radio and wants to see fast cars and a lot of noise, they’ll be entertained with. For the purist, I just don’t know how they’re going to take it. We’ll develop a new audience. The diehard fans are not going to have a lot of enthusiasm. The average one-to-two race a year fan that doesn’t follow the sport will be entertained.”

Who do they think is effected by the economy? Are they stupid?

Do they even know or studied there customer base?

The Novice spectator are the very people not coming to the track. In this economy do you think the novise is going to spend the money?  Come on guys, this is not rocket ecomonics.

You making changes to cut cost for the novice spectator, the very spectator that will have no money and will not attend. Those very spectators will spend their hard money somewhere else. And in the process you totally destroy your fan base. The ones who make
sacrifices to make sure this is the one part of there life they will not miss.

JUST HOW STUPID CAN YOU GET?????????????

NASCAR has seen the same mistake. changes over the years have made their original fan base mad as hell. Now they want them back. Because the fair weather novice fans spend their money on something else.

But what do I know?

I know what drag races will not see my money!

I'm a fan, a doorslammer fan. The very roots of what IHRA has been about. THE VERY FOUNDATION! - Al Smith

FEEDBACK FRIDAY – FORCE AND HADDOCK: THE THEORY OF RELATIVITY

FEEDBACK ARTICLE: FORCE AND HADDOCK: THE THEORY OF RELATIVITY

10-8-09forceandhaddockI am glad to see John Force doesn't forget where he came from and how he got there. There are too many racers trying to make it and the bad ecomoney doesn't help.I know my wife and I are sportsman racers and trying to keep a sponsor or even trying to get new ones is tuff. We had a sponsorship that lasted 10 years and in 2010 we are strting over because our sponsor of 10 years has to back out due to the auto industry but we will just keep trying and keep knocking on doors and hopefully find a new one in 2010 again our hat's off to John and everything he has done for the sport thank you. - Dan Novotny

FEEDBACK FRIDAY – MIKE EDWARDS – BEFORE PRO STOCK THERE WAS MODIFIED

FEEDBACK ARTICLE – MIKE EDWARDS – HIS PLACE IN HISTORY

8-22-08edwardsmodified.jpgI hated to see the Mods and Gas classes go but I got the opportunity to buy a G/G 1968 Camaro that quit so I could get into brackets.  Had some really mixed emotions about the whole thing though, because the Modified class was my favorite. - Doug Tillotson

FEEDBACK FRIDAY – BOBBY BENNETT: FRIDAY WAS NOT GOOD FOR THE IHRA

FEEDBACK ARTICLE: BOBBY BENNETT: FRIDAY WAS NOT GOOD FOR THE IHRA

10-20-09bobbyonIHRAI believe you are correct it was a bad day for IHRA and the racers that support it.

I go to the races to see the qualifying on Friday and Saturday for the pro classes.  I also go to watch two classes Pro Stock and Pro Mod.

It just seems those in charge at IHRA don't understand what the fans want to see.  They also do not understand what the racers want.

It is all about the bottom line and the dollar.

The Win and you're in program for Sportsman racing is not very popular with many of the teams.  The past points program worked fine and was changed by those in charge.

I have enjoyed attending IHRA races for years but this change concerns me. - Frank Doyle

FEEDBACK FRIDAY – BOBBY BENNETT: IS THIS FORCE’S UNPARDONABLE SIN?

FEEDBACK ARTICLE:   BOBBY BENNETT: IS THIS FORCE’S UNPARDONABLE SIN?

10-13-09bobbyonforceGood for you!!  I am so tired of all this BS about JF throwing the race for Robert Hight.  And I'm tired of self-righteous Tony Pedregon whining about his million pesos.  Poor Tony and his little team only funded by Quaker State.  Oh wait a minute they're a pretty big company too.  Like you said Force has done more to keep the pro categories of this sport alive than anyone in the past 25 years.  I believe he did exactly what he needed to do for his team given the rules NHRA created for this increasingly stupid countdown.  NHRA has always prided itself as better than NASCAR because everyone has to qualify for every race.  Then they decide to mimic NASCAR and the countdown.  Like it or not there have always been teams in motorsports and teams sometimes act like teams.    And just to remind everyone - It ain't the middle east, it ain't health care- IT'S JUST A GAME!!! Get over it people. - David Thatcher

FEEDBACK FRIDAY – SEPARATING THE OUTLAWS FROM THE LEGAL EAGLES

SEPARATING THE OUTLAWS FROM THE LEGAL EAGLES

IN RESPONSE TO ROGER BURGESS LETTER

I absolutely agree with Roger Burgess. It seems in everyone's excitement for a new series that the differences betwen a legal 1/4 mile pro mod and an outlaw 1/8 mile race car become very blurred. I like the ADRL but it is outlaw and only 1/8 mile racing. Please make sure your readership understands the difference. If you do you would be the only publication to do so. Thanks for listening. - Bob Mencel
