FEEDBACK ARTICLE:  BILL DONER: DRAG RACING’S PROMOTER

WOW; what a great article! This makes me wish I had been in the area during his heyday, it would have been a blast. Doner still looks good and most likely could fill the stands once again. I am sure his personality and innovation would re-create the lost interest in drag racing.

Wish him well for me. - Bob O'Brien

Great article and good direction to go with Doner. I first met him at the 1977 64 funny cars event. He was strolling through the pits and saw my funny car and immediately said "You’re running McCulloch first round". Later in the tower when I went to get paid he said "Your car is ugly but it sure is fast. You can come back next year. "

I remember the people standing on the track before the final with the semis trying to push them off so that the cars could run. It didn't help, they just threaded the needle between the spectators. It was the biggest most outrageous race I had ever been too or since. - David Benjamin

I worked for Doner at Irwindale, OCIR & Fremont, and never had more fun.  There was always something going on...never a dull moment!  Thanks for the article.  I'd really like to see Billy Lee again soon. - Pat Green
