Johnny Sauter won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship with a third-place finish in Friday night’s Ford EcoBoost 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, leaving race winner William Byron to consider what might have been.
As Byron and Tyler Reddick battled for the lead, Sauter passed Championship 4 contender Matt Crafton for third-place on Lap 119 of 134 at the 1.5-mile track. Sauter then pulled away to claim the championship as Crafton faded to seventh in the closing laps.

Homestead isn’t just the home of the Sprint Cup championship. It’s the Gateway to the Keys!
That makes it just about as weird as Martinsville, Virginia, or Long Pond, Pennsylvania, but in terms of places for stock cars to race, it’s the weirdest.
Naturally, I love it.

Joey Logano earned a return trip to the Championship 4 at Homestead-Miami Speedway after a year’s absence.
Kyle Busch will head to the South Florida track to try to defend his 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title.
And Kevin Harvick won’t be competing for the title for the first time since NASCAR debuted its elimination Chase format in 2014. Needing a victory to advance, as it turned out, Harvick finished fourth in Sunday’s Can-Am 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.

Right up front let me make a confession: I know virtually nothing about what makes a race car work.
Not the engine. Not the transmission. Not the chassis setup. Not the brakes.
Nothing. Nada. Zero. Zilch. Nevertheless, I have some advice for the four drivers and their teams that will compete for the NASCAR Cup Series championship Sunday at Homestead/Miami Speedway in Florida.

The very first thought, when I awakened on the morning after Donald Trump had been elected president, was to wonder if Trump would name Brian France to his Cabinet.
I was trying to accentuate the positive. That was all. I needed coffee.
But enough nonsense. There’s a Chase going on! Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards are in the finals. One race, at Phoenix, lies between them and two others racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 20 for the Sprint Cup championship.

It was just another routine Saturday at Phoenix International Raceway for Kyle Busch.
But nothing else in the Ticket Galaxy 200 was at all ordinary.
All the drama unfolded behind Busch, as eight drivers scrambled for four positions in the NASCAR XFINITY Series Chase’s Championship 4 Round at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

William Byron’s bitter disappointment proved a boon for two of his Kyle Busch Motorsports teammates in Friday night’s Lucas Oil 150 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.
When the engine in Byron’s No. 9 Toyota expired on Lap 141 of 150 – ending the championship run for the series’ most prolific winner this year – Kyle Busch Motorsports teammate Daniel Suarez took over the race lead and went on to score the first NCWTS victory of his career.

Back from the dead.
With a Lazarus act that was delayed and then shortened by rain, Carl Edwards revived his moribund championship hopes the only way he could—with a victory in Sunday’s AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Last in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings after a hard crash and a 36th-place finish last week at Martinsville, Edwards took the lead under caution on Lap 257 when his crew dashed off an 11-second pit stop.

Grabbing the lead after a restart on Lap 171 of 200, Kyle Larson moved to the top of the track just in time to hold off polesitter Brad Keselowski for the victory in Saturday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway.
In a race that saw Joe Gibbs Racing drivers Erik Jones and Daniel Suarez open some breathing room in the inaugural NASCAR XFINITY Series Chase with respective fourth- and fifth-place finishes, Larson got a push from sixth-place finisher Elliott Sadler on the decisive restart and kept Keselowski behind him for the final 30 laps.
