Zane Smith made a last lap pass in double overtime to earn his first career NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series victory Friday night in the Henry Ford Health System 200 at Michigan International Speedway.
The 21-year old Smith held off his friend, Sunoco rookie Christian Eckes by a mere 0.318-second for the victory and his official berth into the upcoming 2020 series Playoffs. Their duel was made possible after the race’s most dominant driver Grant Enfinger was taken from the lead on the restart in a three-truck collision at the front of the field involving 2019 Michigan race winner Austin Hill and NASCAR Cup Series rookie John Hunter Nemechek.

Nobody loves Monday afternoon races a Talladega more than Ryan Blaney after picking up his second win at the track in said circumstances at one entertaining race in the Geico 500. The race began on Monday with Denny Hamlin in the pole position after rain once again ruined the day before. The race started fairly calm as Hamlin, Martin Truex, and Joey Logano all took the lead for a while until the competition caution came out. Logano kept the lead on the restart but lost it soon after to Ricky Stenhouse Jr who got loose and shuffled out; making it a three-wide battle for the lead. As the field stabled back into only two lines it was Penske vs the rest of field for the next few laps. Hamlin came up and scraped the wall and had a tire go down right as Tyler Reddick took the lead and the caution came out for rain hitting the track. After a lengthy red flag for the weather, the stage ended under caution, with Reddick as the winner, his first of his Cup career.

During the latest Cup race, I kept thinking about a sportswriting friend of mine who lives within earshot of Atlanta Motor Speedway. Every time an engine cranks, he can hear it from his house. I thought it must have been strange for the race to be going on without him being there. I asked him about it, and he said so.
No racing facility is within earshot of me, not even the county’s dirt track, but I still feel a little strange about not being there at a few tracks. Darlington is my favorite, but I think I miss Martinsville the most.
Does that make sense?

Kevin Harvick has had an exceptional relationship with Atlanta Motor Speedway and the 2014 NASCAR Cup Series champion showed that again Sunday afternoon winning the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, his third victory at the historic track.
Harvick led a race high 151 of 325 laps en route to his 51st career win, prevailing in a valiant contest with Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr., who finished second and third.
Truex led 62 laps, won the opening two stages of the race and kept Harvick’s No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford honest. Harvick passed both JGR Toyotas to open the third stage of the race and held them at bay to win by a healthy 3.527-seconds. Busch passed Truex for second with five laps to go.

NASCAR veteran AJ Allmendinger bested a field of the sport’s best young talents leading the final 37 laps of Saturday afternoon’s Xfinity Series EchoPark 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Making the run more impressive, Allmendinger rallied from a 30th place starting position.
Noah Gragson, last week’s Bristol race winner, finished runner-up by 1.858-seconds but it was still good enough to earn the Dash 4 Cash $100,000 money bonus given by series sponsor Xfinity. Next week Allmendinger, Gragson, Justin Haley and Daniel Hemric - the second through fourth place finishers – will be eligible for the Dash 4 Cash prize money.
“Oh my God, I won on an oval baby,’’ a grinning Allmendinger exclaimed after climbing out of his winning No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet - referring to his previous three NASCAR wins on road courses.

Due to inclement weather, the NASCAR Cup Series Alsco Uniforms 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway has been postponed until Thursday, May 28, at 7 p.m. ET (FS1, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). In addition, due to travel and setup challenges, NASCAR announced that the NASCAR Xfinity Series Cheddar's 300 presented by Alsco at Bristol Motor Speedway has been moved to Monday, June 1 at 7 p.m. ET (FS1, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).

On his first try, the bounty hunter got his prey.
In the closing laps of Tuesday night’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Chase Elliott held off a determined charge from Kyle Busch in the closing laps to earn the victory and a $100,000 bounty offered to any full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver who could beat Busch.
Not bad for a guy who hadn’t competed in a NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race since 2017.
