CP MOTORSPORTS - KYLE BUSCH KISSES THE BRICKS; CONTINUES WINNING STREAK

Indianapolis Motor Speedway is known for making race car drivers into heroes and then taking those heroes and turning them into legends.
Entering the race, Kyle Busch's streak of three wins in four weeks was amazing by all accounts. But when he took the checkered flag for Sunday's Crown Royal presents the Jeff Kyle 400 at The Brickyard, the streak became nothing short of legendary.
Busch's No. 18 Skittles Toyota came alive when it counted, holding off second place finisher Joey Logano on the green-white checkered finish after taking the lead from Kevin Harvick on a lap 153 restart.
Busch understands what it means to win at Indianapolis.
"If you just look at the top four races that we have in our series, obviously I think you'd -- I would order them as the Daytona 500, the Brickyard 400, the Coke 600, and then the Southern 500," Busch said. "Those are the four crown jewels that I see in our sport. They've been that way for a long, long time, and I don't know that it's really ever changed. Besides those, I've won my Southern 500, I've won my hometown race which is a big race for me, the Las Vegas race. I've also won the Bristol night race, I've swept Bristol, so there's a lot of great things that have happened for me in my career, but this one here today checks off probably the one that's No. 2 on the races to win list.
"There's still that elusive championship, as well, that we want to achieve."
In total, Busch led 19 laps on the way to his first win at Indianapolis. Busch, who won the Xfinity race at Indianapolis on Saturday, has now won four of the last five Sprint Cup Series races. Busch is now just 23 points out of 30th place in the NASCAR Sprint Cup points standings; Busch must be inside the top 30 in order to be eligible to compete for the championship.
Busch knows there is still work to be done not only to get in the Chase but to win a championship.
" I don't have any doubts, but we're still not there, and even if we did get there, we still have got to be able to protect that spot and make it into the Chase," Busch explained. "Whether we get into the Chase and become Chase eligible next week or the week after or the week after that, it doesn't matter as long as it comes post-race Richmond. That's all that matters. Whether we get in and whether we continue to grow and get top 25, none of that matters, just us being able to achieve the top-30 rule and get as many wins as possible in order to -- gives us the top seed come Chase time.
Joey Logano, who battled for the lead until the checkered flag, finished runner-up to Busch for the second straight week.
Logano, who is Busch's former Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, is in awe of Busch's recent string of success.
"The worst part is the same guy beat me the last two times I finished second," Logano said. "I'm glad he's back and all, but geez oh Pete, you don't have to come back like that. Man, we've been working our guts out all year and he comes right back and doing it. I know he's been working hard, getting his foot back together.
"It's impressive what those guys have been doing, too. That's amazing, the run they're on. Obviously he's definitely going to make it into the Chase, and he's going to have some good points."
Kevin Harvick dominated the majority of the race by leading 75 laps in the No. 4 Jimmy John's Chevrolet; 55 laps more than any other driver.
Harvick, who is still the Sprint Cup points leader, believes the late-race restarts were the downfall of an otherwise great performance.
"We had a great day," Harvick said. "I think everybody did a great job, just in that, I guess, second or third to last restart where the 22 and 18 were able to get hooked up and kind of drive by us and I lost control of the race there and didn't really have what I wanted on the restarts once the 18 got control, the speed was too high and I spun the tires on the next one, and just didn't get the restarts all put together like I needed to."
Martin Truex, Jr, finished in fourth place with Denny Hamlin taking home a fifth place finish.
Clint Bowyer recovered from an accident early to take a sixth-place finish followed by Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Kyle Larson and Brad Keselowski rounding out the top ten.
Jeff Gordon was caught up in Bowyer's early accident finished in 42nd place in what is expected to be his final race at Indianapolis.
