Miles the Monster knows who his Daddy is.
The fictional mascot of Dover International Speedway has now been tamed ten times by six-time Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson.
Johnson survived a green-white-checkered finish and received a push from second place finisher Kevin Harvick to win Sunday's FedEx 400 benefitting Autism Speaks. With the victory Johnson joins NASCAR legends Richard Petty, David Pearson, Dale Earnhardt, Sr, and Darrell Waltrip as the only drivers in NASCAR history to win ten times at a single track.
Johnson, who led only once for 23 laps, believes this Dover win was a strategic effort since on track passes were hard to manage.
“What a long hard fought day to get to the front," Johnson said. "It seemed like four or five of us could run the same speed and just couldn’t really pass. We did a great job of hanging in there. My pit stops were awesome. We kind of took a chance on pit sequence to pick off a couple of spots to get us from fifth to third, third to a shot for the win. Then that last set of tires I was running (Kevin) Harvick down and we ended up staying on them and his car didn’t look as strong as it was early in the day and we were able to take advantage of it.”
The victory is Johnson's fourth of the 2015 season and the 74th win of his storied Sprint Cup career.
Johnson’s veteran crew chief Chad Knaus made the pit calls which put Johnson in the position for the victory despite being on older tires than most of his late race competition.
“I didn't know if Chad was just being a car salesman or what, but he told me the guys on two hadn't been very successful, and I wanted to believe him, so I believed him on that one,” Johnson admitted. “And we fired off well and maintained -- I know you're going to say what you've got to say. We got going, and the guys on four didn't come through and the guys on two didn't go anywhere. I thought, well, damn, he wasn't lying to me. We're going to be in good shape. It was really about getting down the front stretch on the restarts, getting up through the gears well.
“In that last restart Harvick hammered me in the back of the car and shot me out in front of the 5 (Kasey Kahne), and once I had the racetrack to myself, we were in control then.”
Kevin Harvick's second place finish becomes his ninth top-two finish this season; it's also the fourth time he's finished in the runner-up position to Jimmie Johnson this year.
Harvick, the defending Sprint Cup champion, admits restarts cost him a chance to earn his third victory of the season.
“We just struggled at the end of the race on restarts, really all day on the restarts," Harvick explained. "Once the track bar broke, we were pretty much in a box and just kind of had to hold on for the first 25 laps and if we weren't in the front then we struggled to just maintain what we had. All in all, everybody did a great job, and I think when you look at Dover it's been a good racetrack for us. We've led laps and just haven't quite finished it yet, but a good, solid day.”
Kyle Larson finished in third place with Kasey Kahne just behind in fourth place. Aric Almirola brought home a fifth place finish.
Martin Truex, Jr, led a race-high 131 laps but finished in sixth place. It becomes the third consecutive race in which Truex has led the most laps but failed to earn the victory. Truex, who notched his first career Sprint Cup victory in 2007 at Dover, doesn't believe his team hit on the setup all weekend.
"We had a good car today but it was never right," Truex admitted. "We were never right yesterday all through practice. We made some changes today, and we made some gains on it, but never really got it where we needed it. Clean air was huge. When we were out front, we were okay. It just never turned good all day long. It just eventually caught up to us.”
Jamie McMurray finished in seventh place followed by Paul Menard, Clint Bowyer and Jeff Gordon rounded out the top-ten.
Pole-sitter Denny Hamlin led four different times for 118 laps but was involved in an accident with Kurt Busch on lap 386 which forced him to settle for a 21st place finish, three laps down. Kurt Busch finished in 31st place.
Heading into next weekend’s race at Pocono Raceway, Kevin Harvick continues to lead the Sprint Cup points standings with a 44 point advantage over second place Martin Truex, Jr. Despite the victory, Jimmie Johnson remains in third place, 76 points behind Harvick.

SATURDAY NOTEBOOK - IN DOVER, RUBBING IS RACING
Never has a race's title sponsor been more fitting.
The Buckle Up 200 from Dover International Speedway featured a lot of contact especially between Roush-Fenway Racing teammates Chris Buescher and Darrell Wallace, Jr, who were racing for lead in the waning laps.
Following contact with Wallace, Buescher was able to conserve fuel and guide the No. 60 Roush Performance Parts Ford to Victory Lane for the second time in the 2015 Xfinity series season and extend his grip on the series points standings.
"I never know what to believe when it comes down to the end of these races," Buescher said. "I know Scott tells me we're just a couple short and then you never know how much we really need to save. We saved quite a bit there at the end. That whole run we were trying to be easy on the throttle and then towards the end of the run we started having to clutch it and let it coast at least half of the straightaway, almost three-quarters of it - which is really hard to do.
"I felt like we were going so slow and it's hard to convince yourself to do it. We made it until the end and had just enough left to do the burnout."
Wallace's left front tire went flat as a result of the contact and while he led 52 laps managed just a 17th place finish. Car owner Jack Roush doesn't believe the late-race contact was intentional and doesn't expect any problems in the future.
"In my 28 years of being in the business of racing with these NASCAR cars, that's the first time we've had an incident between two of our cars that's resulted in one of them not being able finish due to a flat tire," Roush said. "We have to sort that out. I know that nobody meant to have contact, Bubba didn't and certainly Chris didn't. We've got to work on the feelings and get everybody feeling good about being a team and teammates as we go forward."
Wallace, who started from the pole, wasn't thrilled to witness his teammate celebrate in Victory Lane.
I was saving fuel there, and Chris (Buescher) just ran over me and he ends up winning," Wallace explained. "It should be interesting Monday morning. We just got run over. It sucks that it was my teammate. I thought he got help from the No. 7 but I just saw the replay there. I was saving fuel. I didn’t think I was holding him tight and the next thing you know we are almost in the fence.
"The crappy part about it is we had a really strong Ford EcoBoost Mustang, and we couldn’t get off pit road to save us and we got caught in dirty air and then we were in fuel saving mode. I thought we were doing okay until that little incident.
"I would say I am happy Roush won, but I am not."
Differing pit strategies meant Matt Kenseth would finish nearly 16 seconds behind Buescher in second-place. Kenseth, driving the No. 20 Reser's Toyota, fell back early due to an unscheduled pit stop on lap 31 and was able to rebound to lead 51 laps.
Kenseth waited for Buescher to run out of fuel, but it never happened.
"We had a great race car and I actually thought it was all going to work out for us," Kenseth said. "We had a wheel come loose early and had to pit off sequence, that left us a set of tires short so we got the wave-around, were still off sequence and got to stay out one time and were able to lead that whole stint. It went green until the end and really I thought we were in good shape. We had the lead and got our tires way earlier than everybody, I knew we were making a ton of time on the leaders.
"I didn't think anybody could run that long on fuel, so I didn't even think about that one."
With his third-place finish, Regan Smith won $100,000 in Xfinity's Dash4Cash promotion as the highest finishing eligible driver. Smith admitted he was disappointed in his finish but winning the money added icing on the cake.
"That certainly takes the sting away from finishing third," Smith told TV reporters following the race. "We were not very good yesterday in practice. We will take some of Xfinity's money as a consolation prize, but I just want to win so bad."
Last week's Charlotte-winner Austin Dillon finished in fourth place with Sprint Cup regular Kasey Kahne coming home in fifth place. Defending Xfinity series champion Chase Elliott finished sixth followed by Brendan Gaughan, Ty Dillon, Erik Jones and Jeremy Clements rounding out the top-ten. NASCAR XFINITY Series Race Number 12

FRIDAY NOTEBOOK - FRIDAY TRUCKIN' AT THE MONSTER MILE
REDDICK EARNS MONSTER MILE REDEMPTION - Tyler Reddick took to the track looking for redemption.
In just his second start at Dover International Speedway, Reddick won the Lucas Oil 200 in NASCAR's Camping World Truck Series. With just seven laps to go, Reddick made a pass for the lead and never would look back. The victory is the second of both the season and Truck series career for the driver of the No. 19 BBR Music Group Ford for Brad Keselowski Racing.
Reddick admits last season's race at Dover took a major physical adjustment for the 19-year old dirt track veteran.
"After what I let happen to myself last year, not knowing a lot about the g-forces in the corners here," Reddick admitted. "Kind of still being green when it came to asphalt racing and understanding it's a lot higher speed racing, and your body is going to be moving around a lot more than in the dirt car racing. We had a top-five truck last year.To have something like that break up a potential breakout day for us, is things you can't have happen in racing."
Last year's disappointment fueled Reddick's desire to be successful at the Monster Mile.
"I really wanted to come back here and run really strong, like I want to run strong at every given race," Reddick added. "That gave me a little extra fuel to the fire and I knew I had to run good here and we did."
Kyle Busch Motorsports driver Daniel Suarez finished in second place, 1.255 seconds behind Reddick. Despite the deficit, Suarez felt like his Truck was faster than Reddick's.
"To be honest, I felt like we had a faster truck right there but traffic was everything," Suarez said. "I was talking with my crew chief Gary Baxter through the radio and I told him 'I don't care about tires, I need this track postion' so for sure the track position was very important. Erik Jones took just two tires on the last pit stop, and he was almost able to take the win, he was driving away, but traffic was a big problem for him and for me and everyone."
Third-place finisher Erik Jones led 50 of the race's 200 laps was leading the race until Reddick made the final pass. Jones admits frustration is setting in after watching another race slip away.
"It's definitely frustrating," Jones said. "It's even more frustrating at this moment. Once you get a few days down the road it kind of just passes by but it just really hurts being that close to a win three weeks in a row - it's just tough to swallow. It's just a bummer for this race team; we've been so fast and we don't have any wins to show for it."
Daniel Hemric brought home a fourth place finish just ahead of series points leader Matt Crafton who finished in fifth place. Ben Kennedy finished in sixth place with polesitter Ryan Blaney just behind with a seventh place finish. Brandon Jones, Johnny Sauter and Tyler Young rounded out the top ten.
With the win Reddick narrowed Crafton's advantage in the points standings to just 11 points while Erik Jones is third place just 14 points behind. The truck series will be back in action next Friday night at Texas Motor Speedway.
HAMLIN CONTINUES JGR MOMENTUM, WINS DOVER POLE - Denny Hamlin won the first pole of his 2015 campaign during Friday afternoon's Sprint Cup qualifying. Hamlin, driving the No. 11 FedEx Toyota will start first for Sunday's FedEx 400 at Dover International Speedway.
Hamlin's average speed of 160.121 mph sent him to the top of the charts in the final round of knockout qualifying as he was the only driver to reach the 160 mph mark en route to earning his 21st career pole.
"Whatever it is about the qualifying here just seems to suit myself and my driving style," said Hamlin. "I'm pretty confident that come Sunday, we'll be contenders."
Hamlin has won three out of the last six poles at Dover.
Martin Truex, Jr, who has led the most laps two points paying races in a row, qualified behind Hamlin in second. Truex, Jr, could not say enough about his Furniture Row Racing team's effort as they used the same car which raced last week in the grueling Coca-Cola 600.
"It's awesome to see the effort put in," Truex, Jr, said. "Everybody on the team can just taste that victory and is willing to put it all on the line and do whatever it takes to get over that hump."
Kyle Larson managed to qualify third for Sunday's race followed by last week's pole-sitter Matt Kenseth, who qualified in fourth place. Joey Logano has eight top-ten finishes in Sprint Cup competition at Dover will start in fifth place.
Defending Sprint Cup champion Kevin Harvick qualified in sixth place. Greg Biffle will start in seventh place with Carl Edwards, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr, and Kyle Busch rounding out the top-ten.
Jeff Green and Travis Kvapil did not qualify for Sunday's race.
