Joe Gibbs Racing drivers have kissed the bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway three times since the inaugural running of the Brickyard 400 in 1994. But JGR hasn't celebrated at Indianapolis since Tony Stewart's win back in 2007.

Carl Edwards, the newest member of JGR, made a huge stride in breaking the team's streak at the storied speedway by recording the quickest time in Saturday's qualifying for the Jeff Kyle 400 on Sunday afternoon.

Edwards now has two pole position starts this season; Edwards only won 13 poles in 11 seasons while competing in the Sprint Cup series with Roush Fenway Racing.

It's also the first time Edwards will roll of first for a race at Indianapolis.

"After yesterday, guys, this is amazing," Edwards said. "We started so slow and struggled. I think at one point (crew chief) Darian (Grubb) and I were looking at each other and going, 'what are we going to do here?' It was a struggle and everybody buckled down and worked hard. I'm so proud of my guys.

"I didn't realize this is the first pole at the Brickyard for Toyota. There's a lot of pride in that for me. TRD and Toyota have been putting so much effort into this whole program. And Stanley, Stanley has been behind us 100 percent. Not just me but Matt Kenseth and our whole team so this is big. It'll be neat to start up front."

For Daytona 500 champion Logano it will be the 14th time he has started inside the top ten this season. The starting spot also puts him closer to giving his team owner Roger Penske his first ever win at Indianapolis in the Sprint Cup series.

For the second week in a row David Ragan was able to put his No. 55 Aaron's Toyota in the third qualifying position followed by the fastest driver in the opening round of qualifying Tony Stewart in fourth place and Kyle Larson in fifth.

Kevin Harvick, who won the Brickyard 400 in 2003, will roll off in sixth place. Clint Bowyer will start in seventh place followed by Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Kyle Busch and Jamie McMurray rounding out the top ten.

Previous Brickyard 400 winners Paul Menard and Jimmie Johnson will start just outside the top ten in 11th and 12th, respectively.

Jeff Gordon, who is expected to be making his final start at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, failed to advance to qualifying's final round and will start in the 19th position. Gordon's Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott made the field of 43 and will start in the 28th spot.

Ryan Newman, who won at Indianapolis in 2013, had his qualifying time disallowed and will start in 43rd for Sunday's race.

Josh Wise, Jeb Burton and Reed Sorenson all failed to qualify for the race.
