2023 NHRA U.S. NATIONALS - VIDEO NOTEBOOK

#CLASSICDRAGRACING - THE FIRST TIME NHRA RAN A NATIONAL EVENT IN SONOMA

NHRA added four new races to its expanding schedule in 1988. One of those four was a track new to the national scene, even though Sonoma had first held sanctioned events as early as 1969. You will see the legends like Joe Amato, Don Prudhomme, Bob Glidden, and so much more. This particular season would be the first of the explosive and expanding years of the sanctioning body.

#CLASSICDRAGRACING - 1989 NHRA MILE HIGH NATIONALS

In 1988, just three years after the passing of track founder John Bandimere Sr., Bandimere Speedway undergoes a $4.2 Million dollar renovation. The facility returns to action in 1989 with a barn burner of an event. There's a bit of everything in this 1989 broadcast from near tragedy to emotional triumph. This race also marked the first of the Mopar sponsorship of the event. Join us in enjoying one of the greatest events ever.

STORYTELLERS WITH JEFF TAYLOR: THE WHEELIE COOL STORY

Storytellers, the entertaining series created by the producers of Legends: The Series, allows drag racing's legends to tell their stories of the good old days for drag racing.

Anytime you combine an eighteen-wheeler, fried chicken and wheelstands in a story, it's bound to be a winner. This is the story of how Jeff Taylor, fresh off of an NHRA World Championship, took his Super Stocker to a local drag strip and made off like a bandit, literally.

An enterprising track owner took advantage of having the local superstar on hand to boost sales and put on a show in one fell swoop. Taylor was all too willing to oblige.

#CLASSICDRAGRACING - THE 1986 MILE HIGH NATIONALS

This is one of the last Mile High Nationals before the facility closed at the end of 1987 for a major overhaul.

Eddie Hill enjoyed one of his best national event outings by defeating Gary Ormsby, Shirley Muldowney, and Joe Amato to meet Larry Minor in the final round of Top Fuel. Unfortunately for Hill, he was unable to back up after his burnout due to a broken reverser and couldn’t make a pass, handing the title to Minor.

#CLASSICDRAGRACING - 1971 NHRA WINTERNATIONALS, POMONA, CA.

The honest truth is this video while it does cover the 1971 Winternationals in Pomona, Ca., is largely comprised of historical clips from where drag racing had come from up to this point.

"This point" will forever be known as the event where Don Garlits unveiled his new rear-engine dragster in NHRA competition. The unveiling was secondary only to the point he proved he could make it work and create a safer environment for Top Fuel racing.

Butch Maas was the king in the new Funny Car division, enabling team owner Roland Leong to score his second consecutive Winters title.

Legendary Pro Stock driver Ronnie Sox continued to show his dominance as showcased in this Chrysler Corporation inspired coverage hosted by ABC's Keith Jackson.

STORYTELLERS AT CPTV: SCOTTY CANNON TELLS THE STORY OF I'VE HAD SMOKE BLOWN UP MY WAZOO BEFORE BUT NOT LIKE THIS

Storytellers, the entertaining series created by the producers of Legends: The Series, allows drag racing's legends to tell their stories of the good old days for drag racing.

In 1998, Scotty Cannon was on top of the Pro Modified world. The former bracket racer turned doorslammer icon had just completed his sixth IHRA world championship when a gentleman approached him during the final race of the season in Shreveport, La.

STORYTELLERS WITH BILL BADER JR: CREMORA DOES WHAT?

Storytellers, the popular drag racing videos telling of days gone by, returns with another episode; this one told by Bill Bader Jr.

In this video, Bader the second-generation drag strip promoter extraordinaire, tells of the time he and his track pyrotechnics specialist got the idea to use a Cremora bomb (yes, the coffee creamer) to enhance the show. What transpired was a moment of fear and awesomeness. We'll let Bill tell the story, but man, what a mushroom cloud it delivered!

A CAJUN WEEKEND CLASSIC: 1982 NHRA CAJUN NATIONALS

Memorial Day used to be reserved for Moose's place, State Capitol Dragway outside of Baton Rouge, La., where the legends of drag racing would gather for the NHRA Cajun Nationals.

In this visit back to the good old days, you'll see the legends Shirley Muldowney, Don Prudhomme, Raymond Beadle, Lee Shepherd, or in this event an up and coming Top Fuel driver named Mark Oswald.

SEASON 3, LEGENDS: THE SERIES - THE LEGEND OF STEVE EARWOOD AND DAVE DENSMORE

Where one was the other usually wasn't far away. And, for one of drag racing's most storied public relations tandems, this tendency hasn't changed much.

There were no manuals, nor were there any mentors when Steve Earwood and Dave Densmore took over the NHRA's Press and Publicity Department back in 1975.

Together, they painted the sport of drag racing throughout the media landscape in mainstream media, whether it was network broadcast, print or radio.
