SANTA'S EARLY PRESENT: 1984 IHRA SPRING NATIONALS VIDEO

Thunder Valley Dragway, the crown jewel of IHRA facilities, annually hosted the richest professional drag race with unheard paydays in the Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock divisions. Consider this ... in 1980, Larry Carrier paid a whopping $20,000 to win in both Top Fuel and Funny Car divisions. Pro Stock took home an impressive $10,000.

The 1984 season marked a change for the IHRA as Top Fuel was dropped from the program leaving the fuel Funny Car division as the lone nitro division.

This rare video features coverage of the Pro Funny Car division as well as the mountain-motored Pro Stocks.

You'll see the stars of the era ... Billy Meyer, Mark Oswald, Denny Savage, Dale Pulde, Lee Shepherd, Roy Hill and more. This video also features sportsman categories.

If you look really closely during the broadcast, you'll see John Force and the king of the '55 Chevrolets Charles Carpenter.
