When Frank Tamez arrived in Boise, Idaho, the first weekend of May for an NHRA Division 6 race, he didn’t know what to expect.
Not from his driving ability, but out of the 727 EFI hemi pump gas engine from Sonny’s Engines he had under the hood in his 1967 Nova, which was built by Advanced Chassis.
It’s safe to say the engine exceeded all expectations.

Julie Nataas knew she wanted to be a part of the drag racing scene from a young age. She grew up in Drøbak, Norway and followed in her father Thomas’ footsteps.
“I was basically born at the race track with my dad racing all the time,” Nataas said. “We moved to Drøbak when I was eight years old, and that became our hometown. It’s a small place -- an hour away from our capital (Oslo, Norway). And it’s by the ocean, and it’s cold. We got all four seasons there.”

Chip Johnson made the five-hour drive from his hometown of Fayetteville, N.C., to Commerce, Ga., by himself.
He made the return trip four days later with a passenger in the front seat — a guy named Wally.
Johnson has been chasing money and trophies at dragstrips east of the Mississippi for nearly 40 years. It dates back to age 16, when he began bracket racing the ’73 Duster he drove to school at Westside Christian School in Laurinburg, N.C.

Last weekend during the 4-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway, near Charlotte, Monty Bogan Jr. drove his '67 Camaro to a runner-up finish in Stock Eliminator against Drew Skillman and finished one position better with his '92 Camaro over Joe Santangelo in the Super Stock final.
There was a time when those might be expected results for the four-time Sportsman racing world champion, who often raced up to 36 weekends per year in the late-'90s through early-2000s. But then Bogan backed off from racing to concentrate on building his career.
