FINAL RESULTS

Being the fourth of six stops in the North Central Regional tour, Route 66 Raceway’s Burndown at Sundown can be a pivotal race, where one must solidify their position in the quest to win an NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Championship. Several drivers did just that by earning victory at the super track just South of Chicago.  

TOP ALCOHOL DRAGSTER - Number One Qualifier and  Joliet area racer Matt Sackman drove Randy Meyer’s A/FD to a 5.348 ET at 273.33 MPH to defeat T.J. Coughlin, who carded a 5.366 ET at 274.11 MPH. Sackman’s victory came one year after his victorious category debut at Route 66 Raceway.

TOP ALCOHOL FUNNY CAR - Ray Drew, the North Central Region’s TAFC Points leader qualified number 2 and faced number 1 qualifier Sean Bellemeur in the Steve Boggs tuned Bartone Bros. owned Camaro Funny car. Drew defeated the 2018 national champ by racing to a 5.787 ET at 257.33 MPH as Bellemeur shook the tires at 120’ and coasted through the lights, recording a 10.928 at 80.35 MPH

COMPETITION ELIMINATOR - Shaun Vincent, Omaha, Neb., '02 Chevy S10, C/TA, 8.462, 157.45  def. Chad Voges, Saint Peters, Mo., '32 Bantam, K/AA, 7.639, 170.82. 

SUPER STOCK - Ricky Decker, 1994 Camaro, (far lane .082 RT, 9.980 ET, 130.77 MPH) defeated Tyler Bohannon, 1988 Camaro (.055 RT, 10.160, 130.87).

STOCK ELIMINATOR - Ben Wenzel 1967 Z/28 Camaro (near lane .015 RT, 10.634, 118.91) defeated Ron Mattson 1970 Camaro (.078 RT, 10.838 ET, 120.35 MPH).


 

SUPER COMP - Luke Bogacki 2016 American (far lane .025 RT, 8.932 ET, 167.47 MPH) defeated Rick Hughes 2006 power Chassis (.054 RT, 8.907 ET, 166.64 MPH).

SUPER GAS - Bradley Schultz 1963 Chevy Nova Station Wagon (near lane .043 RT, 9.901 RT, 136.94 MPH) defeated Pat DeBottis 2000 Dodge Dakota P/U (.019 RT, 9.944 ET, 165.33 MPH)

SUPER STREET - Mark Smith 1982 Ford Mustang (far lane .014 RT, 10.954 ET, 144.74 MPH) defeated Ronnie Maggart 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle (.033 RT, 10.941 ET, 148.89 MPH).

FRIDAY RESULTS

First-day qualifying and time trials were completed at Route 66 Raceway’s Burndown at Sundown.

In Top Alcohol Dragster, 12 cars made qualifying runs and Matt Sackman drove the Randy Meyer Racing A/FD to the provisional number one spot with a 5.297 ET at 275.67 MPH. Mick Steele sits on the bump spot with 5.438 ET at 267.06 MPH.

Top Alcohol Funny Car has nine cars take to the track and Sean Bellemeur rose to the top with a big time run of 5.495 at 268.28 MPH in the Bartone Bros. Camaro. Tyler Scott brings up the rear.

The Completion Eliminator field has grown this year and Greg Kamplain, who drove his Spitzer dragster 0.643 under the index, leads the list of 23 competitors.

Rounding out the low qualifiers were Rachelle Thibert in Stock Eliminator, Jason Deforrest in Super Stock, Branden Martinson in Top Dragster, Lester Johnson in Top Sportsman, and Glenn Hall in Pro Stock Snowmobile.

Qualifying resumes on Saturday at 9 AM Central time and will be live-streamed by DragRacer.tv and can be viewed at CompetitionPlus Sportsman
