Thursday was life in the fast lane, as Cody Lane raced his way to the top of the sportsman divisions, as the provisional low qualifier in Competition Eliminator, while Troy Huntzberry paced the action in Super Stock. Bobby Brannon was the quickest after two sessions in Stock.at the Dodge NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas, Nev, 

Lane, who races a B/Super Modified Automatic, 2010 Cobalt fired the first shot in Thursday's lone qualifying session for the 28-cars on hand for race No. 23 of the 24-event national series. He stopped the timers at 7.985 seconds, -.735 under the 8.72 index. Slipping into second was the B/Altered Automatic Avenger of Ed Federkell Jr., who was -.678, 7.032. Iconic sportsman racer David Rampy was third with a -.672, 7.248.

Huntzberry saved his best for last, and in the final session for Super Stock, he laid down a -1.181 under the GT/KA index to swipe the top spot from Jeff Lane had his Washington State-based Super Stock/BS Cavalier atop the field -1.161 seconds under the index with an 8.649. Rounding out the top three was the SS/OA '66 Chevelle with an 11.367, -1.143 under his index.

Bobby Brannon's C/Stock Automatic Camaro was the class of the Stock field, taking the top spot with a -1.203, 10.387 performance.

Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series sportsman qualifying continues on Friday at 8 AM, PST.
