Clay's Blog
Running the Roads ……

Blog...that is a funny word and what is it? According to ASK JEEVES, a blog (short for weblog) is a personal journal that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Which then makes me ask exactly what a weblog is. A weblog sounds like some kind of weapon Spiderman would have. So I go and ASK JEEVES again and he told me that a weblog is ‘a website that displays in chronological order the postings by one or more individuals and usually has links to comments on specific postings.’

So now that brings me to my BLOG (What a goofy word). In your journeys, if you travel long and far enough you will get to where you need to go. This past weekend I went to the PRI Show and got to see a lot of friends in the racing business. One of those friends is my old buddy Bobby Bennett.

Bobby told me he was going to Bradenton Motorsports Park to see some friends and convinced me to go. Actually, I was convinced the minute he told me that there was a race going on at the track. In the back of my mind I thought just maybe I could enter the bracket race.

Well, not all ideas are going work out the way you want. For one, Bobby said he was really sure the rental car was not too fast and number two he did not want to walk back to Orlando after a couple of neutral slams in his rental car. No matter - I always love going to the track.

After a long drive back to Orlando and a short night’s sleep at a real nice condo where I was invited to stay by one of my favorite companies, Comp Cams. The guys at Comp Cams go to work real early, so bright and early the next morning I was at the PRI Show, busy wearing out my shoes. I quickly realized there was no way I could finish all the stuff that “The Captain” (Kenny Koretsky) and I had talked about doing while we were there. It just amazes me how many booths are at this show.

Then the real adventure began with my trip to the airport with Bobby Bennett. We left for the airport with plenty of time to spare, or so we thought. I had left my luggage at the Comp Cams condo, which is only two turns from the convention center. Well, after lapping the convention center about 3 ½ times we knew that I had better stick to straight-line racing because navigating was not one of the better things I do.

Upon arriving at the condo and retrieving my luggage, the rest of the trip should have been easy. Multiple wrong turns later, Bobby had wished he had opted for the navigation option in the rental car. Probably in the back of his mind he also wished he had never invited me to ride with him to the airport. Finally an airport exit sign appeared, so now we thought we were home free. We pull in and start searching for the rental car return.

After circling the airport twice we found it. While standing in line to return the car we are hoping that we will be able to get a free upgrade to first class. When in reality we should have been worrying about catching our flight. We trotted to the check-in window because we are “too old” to run now. Luckily, we did get the free upgrade and a smooth flight home to end a busy weekend.
