Leo Barnaby was the inaugural winner at the Cecil County Outlaw Uprising

You can honestly say that all the rules were thrown out the window for the regular racers that run the full quarter mile in the area at Cecil County Dragway’s "Outlaw Uprising". The name of the game was to add parity to the nitrous / supercharger vs. turbo combinations. The short track would seem to be the equalizer as many have thought already. As with any racing, most of the turbo cars will easily bring on the second half of the track at an incredible rate. The starting line and first three hundred feet would be your downfall in this situation. This is an idea that has long been used at the southern tracks mainly for reasons of just having short tracks and less restrictions on vehicles.

Cecil County Dragway and Finishline Performance brought this format to life with the "Outlaw Uprising".Cecil County Dragway and Finishline Performance were looking to feature cars with an outstanding payout of ten thousand dollars to win and money for all rounds in the limited 10.5 class. Three thousand to win in the All Out big tire was offered up also. The draw for the normal eight milers from other areas would have felt like it could have been easy pickings against our full track boys from the north. Extra monies included Top mph and Low ET for the event from Raceware Inc. at five hundred bucks a pop for each category in the 10.5 class. The big tire monies of five hundred each per accomplishment would be put up by "K&K Precision" Kenny Doak for the Number One qualifier and Top mph of this class. This big tire deal was all "Run Watcha Brung" and be the baddest with the fat tires. With help from all the great sponsors and supporters that backed this race, it was all day and as well run as any large organization event; the Pro Mod boys added a killer touch to the already full day of racing.

An outstanding car count ensured that the bad boys of 10.5's were not going to be an instant in. The class needed 32 cars for a full field, but only fell slightly short, as some had problems right out of the trailer or were trying to lay the power down too hard in qualifying.

Leo Barnaby took home the money in Cecil County.

First and second round of qualifying had the turbo cars taking a back seat to the Nitrous / Roots / and centrifugal supercharged cars for the most part. The Nitrous is more easily handled on the front side of the track as the turbos enjoy the boost the extra half track allows them. The enormous amount of power from the turbos had the guys knowing it needed to change a bit from their regular launch, giving them fits with tire shake and boost blasts too early for all that hairdryer horsepower. The top six cars were either sprayed or belt driven boost in the final ladder. The turbos still had more to sort out and weren’t far behind with the disadvantage. Chuck Ulsch earned the top spot with a well-rounded blast of 4.57 @ 164, and Carmen Diamante 5.39 @ 133 finalized the sixteen cars that would run for the bucks.

First round found Gerald Dovidio's immaculate 68 Camaro paired with Richie Sexton's "Head Hunter" Nova. Gerald Dovidio took a major hit on the tree with a .471 light to Sextons .054, bout came around a slowing Sexton for the win 5.11 @ 139 to Sextons 6.62 @ 122. Concrete walls have their good and bad features. Jack Gulli made this noticeable when he got out early on Leo Barnaby .059 to Barnaby's .116. Not more than 300ft out, Jack Gulli moved quickly to the center and under the circumstances either tried to correct the 3,200lb bullet or was just moving too fast to adjust away from the wall which he impacted very hard at a near 45 degree angle pushing the wall in and causing major damage to the vehicles side. Leo Barnaby made a quick move past Gulli saving himself also and on to the win and another round 4.73 @ 154 to 6.70 @ 62.

Robbie Hudlow

"Note": Jack went to the hospital directly afterwards with breathing pains. In the interest of not spreading rumors, as of this posting we have yet to attain an update.

Joe White drew a very tough customer Jim Briante, Both Mustangs run under pressure, Joe White with a turbo and Briante with a Procharger. It was almost dead even off the tree for both but Briante pulled down track as Joe White tried to corral the BC turbo power by soft pedaling, Briante moves on 4.74 @ 154 to Whites 6.48 @ 82. A huge upset was to be found in the match between Dave O'Donnell and "Dead On" Dave Erb. It so happens that O'Donnell made an honest mistake as he accidentally lit the bulbs and threw of Dave Erb. The consistent tree reaction times we've seen from Dave Erb showed big time that he was caught off guard, his .505 light was way too much to give away even with the power of his car to play catch up to the winning Dave O'Donnell's slower 5.13 @ 142 to the quicker but loosing 4.91 @ 150. NY player Scott Gaudagno is flexing his nitrous power these days, taking out many of the usual suspects at area events as a newcomer. Terris Hicks would be his first round victim. Hicks had neither the light nor the traction to move on to the next round and was put out by an extremely fast pass by Gaudagno 4.77 @ 150 to Hicks' 5.86 @ 88. The sweet Camaro of Brian Penna is also on a roll as of late, this time he put the hammer down on the mustang of Tim Essick, both cut good lights and was one of the closest races of the day with Penna coming out on top 4.96 @ 151 to Essick's 5.16 @ 140. With a new set up in his Mustang John Ullman took too much of a chance on the tree against Chris Keilitz, Ullman drew the RED and let Chris Keilitz stroll down track with the win light on already, 6.97 @ 63 to Ullmans foul 5.54 @ 134. Keep an eye out for this green Ford as the bugs get worked out and John Ullman finding himself deep into the rounds soon. Can't put this one much simpler, the very active and winning Chuck Ulsch lined up with Carmen Diamante, Ulsch has had much more time in the car to Diamante's casual appearances, not giving anything up for Carmen but seat time is critical and Carmen made the best of it while being taken out by Ulsch 4.62 @ 162 to Diamante's 5.41 @ 148.

Second Round was the nostalgia looking Camaro of Gerald Dovidio sitting in the next lane to the newer 3rd generation body of Leo Barnaby. Barnaby still suffered the reaction time blues he's been hit with from a problem with the car not coming up on the converter, but not so much as the terrible light by Dovidio 1.85 to Barnaby's .248. Barnaby was on a single at this time and ran the "Goldust" Camaro out the back door with a winning 4.72 @ 155 to Dovidio's 5.12 @ 132. Another Camaro goodie was Dave O'Donnell squaring off against Chuck Ulsch. Dave O'Donnell lit the red light in anticipation -.001 "4.98 @ 143” and of course the loss is included in this deal. Ulsch would move on with a strong pass of 4.64 @ 162. Jim Briante continued running his Mustang like a wild pony up through the ladder. Brian Penna took the loss to Briante with a 4.90 @ 151 to Briante's winning 4.78 @ 154. One of Gaudagno's toughest customers would be in the beams next to him Chris Keilitz or "Chin" as he's called sometimes. The two Chevy’s were off dead even as Gaudagno was pulling hard on the top end leaving Chris Keilitz behind in an ever so close race, 4.70 @ 158 to 4.77 @ 154.

Semi Finals were ready to go with four of the best in the class. Jim Briante almost had this one wrapped up as he was out early .037 to Gaudagno’s .088. Guadagno again powered through the top end with the nitrous overcoming the boost of Briante, 4.76 @ 152 to Briante's 4.96 @ 151. It was a damn close race again for Gaudagno. Chuck Ulsch was problematic on the line as fluid spilled after the burnout; No Times were recorded as Leo Barnaby took a ride into the finals to face Scott Gaudagno in what would seem to be a featured bout today.

Finals: Both cars came to the line sounding healthy and ready for bear. The Cecil Asphalt would pit these two after a 16-car showdown for the big prize. Big money was up for grabs and no prisoners would be taken. Going for the all or nothing shot Leo Barnaby seemed to get the car out on a good light and back to his usual self with an .033 RT blowing down the eight mile at 4.72 @ 154, Gaudagno would find himself looking directly at Barnaby’s win light already on as Gaudagno had cut his light short and drew the dreaded "red" handing the win to Leo Barnaby, although Gaudagno did run a quicker and faster 4.71 @ 157, One could only imagine how close this could have been between these two had both bulbs been green. What an incredible race summary and participation for the First Recorded Cecil County "Outlaw Uprising Champion" of Neverlift Racecraft Leo Barnaby / Team Neverlift Racecraft and "Wayne Keegan"

Robbie Hudlow captured the “Big Tire” title

"Outlaw Uprising" Big Tire Session

Since the guys with the bigger than 10.5 tires felt they needed to hang with only the large rubber field of cars, Cecil County and Finishline Performance obliged these racers with the uncapped style 3,200lbs, anything goes class. For the most part they are supposed to be faster just by giving them more tire, the weight hurts a little but the cars that run this do the eight mile very well because of the improved tread on the sixty foot times. The basis for these cars is usually "Outlaw" style or Nostalgia Pro Street class cars. Nothing is too outrageous for this class. You can see by the qualifying rounds the make up and versatile combinations.

Cecil County - Finishline Performance: "Outlaw Uprising" Big Tire racers
1..John Schroeder 4.74 @ 152 : 02 Camaro, Musi 632 EFI BBC, Nitrous, Glide - Liberty Auto Body,Pat Musi,Neverlift Motorsports

8..Marino Cintron "No Time" : 87 Regal T Type, Musi 632 BBC, EFI, Nitrous, T400, David Kogan CC. Marinos 1/4 mile Performance Broke

In qualifying 2004 NSCA NPS Champion John Schroeder led the pack in both rounds standing firmly on his 4.74 @ 152 run. Robby Hudlow was close behind in second, Joe Schroeder was still working out the bugs on his outrageous 69 Camaro. It was great to see Ken Doak set himself back into the drivers seat after his horrific crash at this facility and nearly took his life, he got well into the good numbers. James Houston looked like he had a real grip on the line with unusually large wheelstands from him. Marino Cintron only made it through his first burnout before it seemed like his Trans had gone away and could not return.

Marc Dantoni took home the bonus Pro Mod money.

Round One: Ken Doak was the first one out to the beams with James Houston. Leaving with almost identical reaction times Ken Doak held the lead and lit the winning bulb in his lane with James Houston right beside him. 5.23 @ 138 to Houston’s 5.56 @ 127 made Doak a round two participant. Robbie Hudlow took the tree and the win against a tire shaking Joe Schroeder 5.29 @ 135 to 11.85 @ 34. John Schroeder ran the bye run as only six cars were in this field, John made no attempt to run the pass other than to stroll down the track and keep the pristine Camaro fresh for the next round.

Semi Final: Seems like a short race for the big tire boys but with only six cars, there still was that champ from the NSCA that each of the next in line had their sights on. Robbie Hudlow cut an incredible .006 light and left Ken Doak almost a full .230 behind. The Bright Yellow Camaro gulped in as much Alcohol as it could handle to play catch up, but the faster and quicker 5.25 @ 138 fell short of Hudlows 5.40 @ 136 in the end, sending Hudlow into the final against John Schroeder after his bye run again in this round.

Final: With John Schroeder as fresh as his first qualifier and no full passes since then, Robbie Hudlow had to wonder what Schroeder may have for him. Hudlow posted up a very good .039 light while Schroeder lagged on the hit and left with a reaction time of .165, The were neck and neck with Schroeder pulling hard on Hudlow at the top end. Not enough grunt to get past Hudlow 4.86 @ 150, John Schroeder's quicker 4.80 @ 149 was lost on the tree by a mere .06 to Robbie Hudlow and now the First Cecil County "Outlaw Uprising" Big Tire Champion.

Robbie Hudlow Receives: A $1,500.00 payout, as the field was not full with the 16 needed cars.
Runner Up Receives: $800.00, Semi Finals: $400.00 X 2, First Round: $200.00 X 1.

Test and tune Spotlights:
Rich McPhillips: 438 ci, Nitromethane Injected Top Alcohol Dragster made the trip down from Valley Forge, Pa. to show the folks in Maryland that nitromethane rocks!! The McPhillips / Anderson Service Center T/AD runs the small cubic inches but the belch and fury of this injected motor was a show stopper this afternoon. Two clean passes in the 5.50 range at 250mph more than enough to send the many fans back to the pits for an eyeful of this ride.

Donald Troy was wringing out his 63 Top Sportsman Corvette, shockingly this car ran low 7's on a 500ci Small Block Naturally Aspirated platform. This Top Sportsman class has been growing steadily and the quality of these cars are show stopping, Make sure you check your NHRA division schedules to see where these cars will be appearing.

gDR would like to share its thanks to the Cecil County Dragway’s staff and announcer, what a great time and great bunch of guys they are. Dave O'Donnell at Finishline Performance for having gDR on the roster and all the "Uprising Supporters" for their event that couldn't be done without them. For the fans that packed Cecil we here hope you enjoyed this show and make plans for next time.
