John Force, the multi-time NHRA funny car champion, annually holds his CHP toy drive open house every December just before Christmas. Force, who sponsors this charity that is dear to his heart, has a unique entry cost to the open house. He requires that each person donate a new toy for disadvantaged youth, who probably would not enjoy Christmas without donated gifts from the CHP, and John Force racing.

The tour began on a wet, cold and dreary day, which at this time of the year in southern California is rare. I made the trek from my apartment in Santa Monica , south to the Orange County headquarters of Force Racing, where my friend, photographer James Drew, greeted me.

Scores of Force funny car bodies line the shop.

Nearly 400 classic, custom and race cars were on hand for the open house and car show. The open house offers full access to the Force race shop, gift shop, and showroom displaying all of the winning trophies accumulated over the years. Also, we were provided an autograph session from 11:30 until 2pm. The line started early, and stretched around the entire building with fans clamoring for a place in line to have pictures taken, memorabilia signed and shake the hands of their favorite drivers and crew chiefs.

In addition to John Force, signing autographs were Austin Coil, Gary Densham, John Medlin, Del Worsham, Chuck Worsham and Cory Mac. The weather was a definite problem all day but because the southern California fans are loyal to Force and look forward to this day, the attendance was strong.

The best example of how many cars John has had over the years was the shop full of many Force funny car bodies. It was amazing as I counted 34, with more still hidden in storage on the roof. One thing I did notice was construction still going on with Force racing receiving a major facelift and upgrade on this wonderful facility. Completion of the upgrade should be accomplished by mid January. Force stated that as the team grew, he knew the shop would also.

Even poor weather didn't stop crowds of fans.

Although the rain fell, it didn't seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the fans waiting in line to meet their chosen heroes. Located in what used to be the showroom of this former car dealership is the display of several of Force's winning cars and all of his winning hardware for the fans to view. All in all it was a great day at Force Racing, despite the bad weather.

See ya next year.........Mike
