NSCA event cancelled at Commerce

(5-1-2004) - Too much rain and too little time led to the cancellation of this weekend's Dixie Street Car Shootout at Atlanta Dragway. According to Patrick Budd, "with all the rain we had here since early Friday, there was just no way for the crew here in Atlanta to get the track into condition for us to race with the time we had left this weekend. There was just too much water under the rubber, and they would have had to scrape the entire track, which was just not possible."

Racers have the option of taking 20 points towards year-end points totals or having their entry fee refunded.

Friday Notes - Rain, Rain, Go Away; One man's cooler and neat used car for sale

In the cockpit of Nick Scavo's ride is an interesting intercooler.

(4-30-2004) -Dancin’ between the raindrops – In a scene all too often replayed these days, the NSCA faithful assembled in the pits have been busy moving their hot rods in and out of cover as intermittent rain showers have been falling on Atlanta Dragway since mid-morning. With scattered showers in the forecast through Monday, officials are nonetheless optimistic about getting the Dixie Street Car Nationals in by Sunday night. With much of the track drying equipment in Bristol this weekend, however, it will be a little tougher to keep ahead of the moisture.

The “Windy City Wildman” returns! – 2003 Procharger Super Street champion Nick Scavo is out for the first time this season, and he’s going to be driving his familiar silver turbocharged ’69 Camaro in Atlanta this weekend as his new Corvette is as yet unfinished. There’s a huge difference, however. Where once could be found a back seat is now a huge intercooler which Scavo affectionately calls R2D2. He claims that while the new hardware adds 100 pounds to the weight of the car, the gain in horsepower will more than make up for it.

Need a Monte Carlo? We know where you can find one.

Mr. Blue Oval – One of the most famous names from the days of the factory-sponsored race teams is on hand in Atlanta this weekend. Dick Brannan worked for the Ford Motor Company and was directly involved with the Special Engineering – Stock Vehicles Department for many years. He was instrumental in the birth of Ford factory drag racing and the development of most of their special project cars such as the Thunderbolt and many others.

History for sale – One of the most recognizable and respected cars in the NSCA ranks is the wicked winged ’98 Monte Carlo campaigned in Pro Outlaw by James Clark. Originally built for four-time champ Marc Dantoni, the Pat Musi-powered beast has won numerous races and titles, including the NSCA World Championship, the World Streetnationals and most recently, the 2004 NSCA season opener in Belle Rose, Louisiana. Now it’s up for sale, as Clark has declared his intentions of moving on to the Pro Mod ranks. This is one awesome hot rod, and whoever is lucky enough to end up with it will own a real piece of history.
